This book includes 100 lake-themed devotions accompanied by photographs.
If you like devotional books, you will love this book. The devotions are thought-provoking and the photos are beautiful.
The way the devotions stick to the theme is interesting. Each one uses a metaphor for some part of lake vacations. Just a few examples are horseback riding, sitting by the fire, making coffee in the morning, boating, and biking. I really loved a number of the devotions, and I plan on re-reading those.
One devotion that stands out is about how fear is a mirage that creates illusions. The devotion says that some of the most fascinating, wonderful blessings frighten us the most.
Something I learned from another devotion is that the pupil of the eye used to be called the apple of the eye. So in Psalm 17:8 which says, “Keep me as the apple of your eye,” apple means pupil and so is saying, “keep me in your focus.”
Some of the photos are really beautiful. Many photos are landscapes and some are commonplace things, but the devotions for those are still very relevant. Every so often there’s a two-page photo.
Overall, this is an encouraging and helpful book to read and I recommend it if you typically enjoy reading devotional books.
