The World of Fawkes – Art and Music of the Early 1600’s

the world of fawkes

Exciting news in the book world: Fawkes is released today! This is one of my favorite books, and I wrote a review of it that you can read here.

I thought it would be interesting to research the world of Fawkes: the early 1600’s. The book is set in England, and the events of the book take place 1604-1606. I might make this a multi-part post and do other posts about food, clothing, literature, and world events of the time, but for now, here is what I found out about the art and music of that time.

Landscape with the Flight into Egypt by Annibale Carracci, an Italian painter. From 1604
Portrait of James VI and I by John de Critz. From 1605. James is a character in the book!
Supper at Emmaus by Caravaggio. From 1606

  • The Baroque Period began in 1600.

Some composers of the time:

William Byrd – English
Orlando Gibbons – English
Claudio Monteverdi – Italian

Songs of the time:

From 1604

From 1605:

I hope you enjoyed this post!
